Course Name Hours Course Description
Tracheostomy Care 3.50 Changes in Medicare payment made in 2010, are leading to an influx of patients with tracheostomy and those who are ventilator dependent into sub-acute skilled nursing facilities. Health care reform will further influence this trend and reimbursement will depend on quality care and positive outcomes. This course is for practitioners and facilities who want to be proactive in being able to meet the demand and support this fragile population.

Tracheostomy and ventilators can make even the most seasoned healthcare practitioners uneasy. For many RN’s, LPN/LVN’s, and CNA’s working in skilled nursing facilities, these patients will provide a new challenge and demand that they develop new skills. This course aims to take the mystery out of tracheostomy care. The latest technological advances for tracheostomy tubes will be reviewed. Through the use of video demonstration and thorough review of industry best practice methodologies, nurses and other healthcare practitioners will gain the knowledge and the confidence they will need to provide quality care.
Using Critical Thinking to Manage Oxygen Therapies 4.00 A Link-it Course©  A Link-it course is a critical thinking course.

The most meaningful learning occurs when connections are made using analytical thought processes.  Oxygen therapies are a necessary part of many medical treatment regimens. The wide array of both acute and chronic disease states and conditions managed, either directly or indirectly, with this valuable medication are seen in every single type of care setting. As both medical and nursing based research have provided evidence of best practices with oxygen therapy, treatment has evolved. The evolution has resulted in extended use of oxygen therapies far beyond the acute care setting into the realms of post-acute and home care via many more types of delivery devices and management protocols. As part of the collaborative care team providing care for patients requiring oxygen therapy, nurses must maintain competency to ensure compliance with care standards. This course serves as a review of theory and nursing actions as well as a competency assessment.

This course provides the content necessary to promote use of critical thinking in managing a patient requiring oxygen therapy. The Linkit symbol will link associations between theory and nursing action rationales.
