The respiratory system is composed of lungs and the airway and is involved in two main functions: supplying oxygen to all parts of the body and expelling carbon dioxide from the body. Any complication or disease of the respiratory system can be life-threatening as it may disrupt the normal breathing in a patient. The CNA should be able to identify any respiratory complications in a patient. Therefore, the purpose of inservice is to inform and educate nurse aides on the signs and symptoms of some common respiratory disorders
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- State the components of the upper and lower respiratory tracts.
- Describe how the respiratory system works.
- Define & state 3 symptoms of tuberculosis.
- Describe proper donning and doffing of PPE.
- State 3 breathing techniques that can be utilized in patient care.
