South Carolina Legalities of Infusion Therapy
It is imperative that all nurses understand the rules and regulations set forth by the state that governs the nurse’s practice. Each state has rules and regulations that differ from one another, therefore it is necessary for each nurse to know the specific state(s) in which he or she practices; guidelines, rules and laws. The following information guides facilities, organizations, and all licensed nurses regarding the South Carolina's State Board of Nursing's guidelines pertaining to infusion therapy practices. The South Carolina State Board of Nursing, through the nurse practice act, mandates the requirements that must be followed to practice infusion therapy. This course will guide you through the South Carolina State Board of Nursing website, nurse practice act, scope of practice and delegation procedures that impact the provision of infusion therapies by nurses. It is always recommended that the Board’s website be checked independently as any state board can append, amend and change the rules and regulations that nurses are expected to follow.

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. List 3 components required for the LPN to practice IV therapy in the state of South Carolina.
  2. List 2 components the board requires for RNs to practice IV therapy in the state of South Carolina.
  3. Describe 2 IV related procedures the SC Board of Nursing states is outside the scope of practice for an LPN.
