Kevin Stansbury

Kevin Stansbury, MBA, BS, RN, CEN, VA-BC, is a Registered Nurse with over 25 years’ experience in the medical field including critical care, emergency medicine, and infusion therapy. He is currently living and working in the Central Valley of California. Kevin is a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a combat medic and nurse. He received several military decorations during his tours in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, including an Army Achievement Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, and the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal. Kevin also received his Expert Field Medical Badge while serving two tours in Korea.

Hazard Communication
This course is designed to protect these workers exposed to hazardous chemicals in all industrial sectors, the Federal Government established the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom) 1910.1200, also known as the "right to know" law. This standard is based on a simple concept: that the employee has both a need and a right to know the hazards and the identities of the chemicals they are exposed to when working. This course is designed to assist both employers and employees in learning about work hazards and how to protect themselves.

Objectives

The structure and objectives of this course are centered on the requirements outlined in the OSHA Standards.
  • Meet the requirements of 29 CFR, Part 1910.1200 for certification in Hazard Communications.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes a hazardous substance and the risks and hazards associated with them. 
  • Demonstrate an ability to recognize the presence of the hazardous materials used in the workplace.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), NFPA labeling, DOT labels/placards, and other chemical labeling used at the site in working safely around chemical hazards found in the workplace.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the routes of entry for hazardous materials to enter the body, and of the effects that the specific chemical found at the site might have on people, property, or the environment.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the terminology used on an MSDS
  • List proper workplace procedures to follow for the safe handling and use of chemicals including proper storage techniques, use of personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and spill containment/cleanup materials.
